Crawlage (January life drawings)

I want to create a character called MAYOR POPPINS. Just like Mary Poppins, except a mayor, so he or she comes to a town and declares themselves mayor for a while and sorts the whole town a-out, and then disappears again without a trace! And there's going to be a lot of singing and chimneysweeping. "But Mayor Poppins, none of us have chimneys in our houses these days--" "Silence! It is townwide chiminy-sweeping weekend!"

As I've mentioned, the reason I keep posting such loads of simplified gesture drawings is that even though I love them, they would be kind of a waste of space in a portfolio, whereas this space is for me to waste as I see fit:



...Okay, those two very last poses go together a little too well, if you catch my drift. But he just did those poses one after the other and they ended up right next to each other in my pad. It was too great a coincidence to ignore!

Silhouetted

Designing starting with a silhouette in today's class. Just a quick doodle, which inspired me to once again sketch some "Slings & Arrows" characters with the same approach. I'm closing in on them little by little... :)

Two posts in as many days!?
The next pass of the Tulio and Miguel assignment. Hey, at least it has both characters now!

Still haven't animated a lot of it, but I have my stuff pretty much mapped out and I like how it's coming along. (You might notice the ending bit I used in the pose test is missing -- I'm still planning to include that, but I didn't have time to draw it for this pass.)

The cartoony bunny

For digital painting class, we had to have three character designs of our own so we could then do three colour keys (variations) of the package. It feels like it's been ages since I tried designing characters, but I do want to use these guys in something, maybe our next animation assignment:

I got extremely helpful critiques from our teacher today but haven't fixed the designs yet, so consider them a work in progress.
The same goes for these three colour keys!

A thing from the 1st digital painting class

I was actually a little nervous but it looks like the class is going to be awesome!

Oh and we're using Tulio and Miguel in our first animation assignment of this semester! I am jazzed.

"Backseat director" (WIP)

What can I say, Slings and Arrows is one of my favourite shows ever, right up there with Spaced. Some day way down the line I really want to animate caricatured versions of them doing their best lines, so I tried to "character design" the main characters. :/ It's gonna get better... later... sometime...
